ColLAB Cologne ist das neue Ensemble für zeitgenössische Musik an der HfMT Köln unter der künstlerischen Leitung von Prof. Susanne Blumenthal. Bereits im Gründungssemester WiSe 21/22 gewann ColLAB den Ensemblepreis des renommierten Hochschulwettbewerbs Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Berlin und arbeitete kurze Zeit darauf sehr erfolgreich mit Helmut Lachenmann. Kooperation mit ON Netzwerk Neue Musik Köln, dem DOMFORUM, dem Klavier-Festival Ruhr, sowie zukünftig mit Philharmonie Veedel und Acht Brücken definieren ColLAB Cologne als Botschafter des IfNM innerhalb und außerhalb der Hochschule.

1997 wurde das Ensemble für experimentelle Improvisation unter der Leitung von Prof. Paulo Álvares gegründet und steht seitdem für die Entwicklung innovativer Improvisationstechniken in zeitgenössischer Komposition und Interpretation: Hier treffen Interpret:innen und Komponist:innen in kreativer Fusion aufeinander. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei in der Erforschung neuer sonorer Landschaften mittels avancierter Techniken und der Schaffung eines Raumes für radikale Ideen und Experimente. Konzerte und Performances führten das Ensemble u.a. in die Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Zeche Zollverein Essen oder Lehmbruck Museum Duisburg. Künstlerische Kollaborationen, u.a. mit Gene Coleman, Gerhard Stäbler oder Sergej Maingardt und regelmäßige Praxis-Labore an der Europäischen Akademie für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Montepulciano (Palazzo Ricci) sollen ab 2023 mit einer neuen Konzertreihe im Loft und der Kunststation St. Peter ergänzt werden. 



Die Konzerte im LOFT beginnen in der Regel gegen 20 Uhr - das LOFT öffnet jeweils um 19.30 Uhr.
Ausnahmen in der Winterzeit - zB an Sonntagen - sind möglich.

ColLAB Cologne is the new contemporary music ensemble at the Cologne University of Music and Dance (HfMT), under the artistic direction of Prof. Susanne Blumenthal. Already in its inaugural semester (Fall/Winter 2021–2022), ColLAB won the ensemble prize at the prestigious Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Berlin University Competition and, shortly thereafter, collaborated very successfully with Helmut Lachenmann. Collaborations with ON Netzwerk Neue Musik Köln, the DOMFORUM, the Ruhr Piano Festival, and, in the future, with Philharmonie Veedel and Acht Brücken establish ColLAB Cologne as an ambassador for the IfNM both within and outside the university.

The Ensemble for Experimental Improvisation was founded in 1997 under the direction of Prof. Paulo Álvares and has since been dedicated to developing innovative improvisation techniques in contemporary composition and performance: here, performers and composers come together in a creative fusion. The focus lies on exploring new sonic landscapes through advanced techniques and creating a space for radical ideas and experiments. Concerts and performances have taken the ensemble to venues such as the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Zeche Zollverein Essen, and the Lehmbruck Museum Duisburg. Artistic collaborations, including with Gene Coleman, Gerhard Stäbler, and Sergej Maingardt, as well as regular practice labs at the European Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Montepulciano (Palazzo Ricci), are set to be complemented starting in 2023 by a new concert series at the Loft and the Kunststation St. Peter.


The concerts at the LOFT will generally start at around 8.00 pm CEST - the LOFT will open at 7.30 pm CEST.
Exceptions during wintertime - eg on Sundays - are possible.
